2023 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits, France (750ml)
TASTING NOTES:
A wine of surpassing elegance and finesse, offering a perfumed black cherry fruit aroma with hints of rose petals and liquorice; the aromas feature the spiciness of the fruit more than the effect of oak ageing. There is a bright burst of limestone freshness on the palate, a supple texture and a lingering finish. There is less overt tannin than in the Grands Echézeaux, but a finish that is just as long. Open in seven to 10 years and drink over the decades that follow. 24,772 bottles produced.
- Decanter, 97 pts.
The 2023 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is one of the more finessed wines in this range, as it so often is. Super-ripe dark red cherry, pomegranate, mint, blood orange and exotic spice tones stain the palate. The Romanée-Saint-Vivant shows all the natural richness of the year in its unctuous mid-palate and decidedly ripe profile. This, too, opens beautifully with time as the fruit recedes a bit and brisk acids and tannins take on a more central role.
- Vinous, 97 pts.
As it often does, the Romanée-St.-Vivant showed reserve, particularly in the aroma, yet with plenty of cherry, black currant, blackberry and iron flavors. It was vibrant, revealing excellent depth and a superlong finish (97 points, non-blind).
- Wine Spectator, 97 pts.
