2022 Chateau de Ferrand, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, France (750ml)
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
Blend: 66% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc
TASTING NOTES:
Smells intense and inviting. Smooth and supple on the palate, creamy, sweet, tangy and cool fruit enters the palate - blueberries, raspberries, cherries and blackcurrants alongside clear minerality in the salty, liquorice, graphite and flint edge. Tannins are so well worked, really precise and do so well to give the frame and the structure. The juicy core is lovely and this has some compelling aspects in the minerality, crunchy, pure fruit and just spiced clove, cinnamon and tobacco edges. Feels nicely complete with purpose. A touch sombre but I like the seriousness. Harvest 5 September-5 October. Yield of 44hl/ha. 3.65pH.

A blend of 66% Merlot and 34% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Château De Ferrand is deep ruby/plum-hued and offers terrific aromatics of red and black cherries, new leather, savory tobacco, and iron. Concentrated and structured on the palate, it has medium to full-bodied richness, a balanced, layered mouthfeel, ripe yet firmer tannins, and a great finish. A beautiful wine, it’s going to require 4-6 years in the cellar and will drink nicely over the following two decades. This is a Château to watch.

Lovely complexity and poise here, showing good balance and harmony with a nice touch of creaminess to the plummy fruit. Freshly cut vanilla bean, ripe red berries, chestnuts and crushed violets. Fine, sweet tannins on the medium- to full-bodied palate with well-defined fruit and a lengthy finish. Drink from 2027.

A fan-friendly version, with a warm gush of boysenberry and blackberry puree notes lined with black tea, singed anise and dried violet. Silky in feel through the toasted finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2036.
