2021 Charles Krug Peter Mondavi Family Reserve 'Generations', Napa Valley, USA (750ml)

Generations is a Bordeaux-style blend created to honor our family's past, present and future. The fruit is night-picked from our estate vineyards and aged in new French oak barrels. Aromas of  red and black fruit, a hint of raspberry, tobacco leaf, and green and black tea leaf. Flavors of blackberry and a touch of menthol open up to layers of fresh baked chocolate tart, with a finish of macadamia nut, and silky yet restrained tannins. 

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot

TASTING NOTES:

The Generations Napa Red is an elegant, medium-bodied wine laced with fragrant notes of spearmint, sage and cassis, alongside crunchy red fruit such as dried strawberries and mulberries. Violets and rose petals add floral intrigue, while the lithe, featherweight tannins are framed by a firm spine of acidity, giving the wine poise and lift.

Wow, so silky and supple in texture and flush with fruit and subtle spices. Red and black plums, black cherries, dark chocolate and creme de cassis on the palate. Full-bodied, softly tannic, broad and generous. Delicious and easy to enjoy. Drink now or hold.

The 2021 Generations is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Merlot. Bold and explosive, the 2021 is impressive right out of the gate. I especially admire its vertical build and persistence. Red flowers, cherry, mint, white pepper and iron are some of the many notes that build with a little coaxing. The 2021 is opulent yet finessed.

It represents a solid value in the realm of Napa Valley red wines.

It's medium to full-bodied with a ripe, concentrated mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and a great finish. This beauty will keep in cold cellars for 10-15 years. Drink 2025-2039.
