WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
Bucking the DOCG of Mt. Etna, Sicily, Massimiliano Calabretta believes he can produce a better Nero Mascalese than is required by Italian law, and we concur. Gorgeous aromas of red currants, pomegranate, blueberry, wild spices and herbs, purple flower and blood orange. The palate is elevated, complex and beautiful with mouth watering acidity, bright red berry fruits, dry spices and incredibly long. A wine to sniff all day long, but put it with slow roasted lamb, Paella or pork shoulder.
TASTING NOTES:
The 2018 Rosso Sara bursts from the glass with a seductive mix of cloves, cherry sauce, plums and brown spice. This is fleshy in feel, enveloping the palate with masses of red berries, tinged with balsam herbs and a contrasting twang of spiced blood orange. It leaves a subtle coating of fine tannins to linger, yet they don’t get in the way of the 2018’s energy and verve, tapering off with notes of strawberry and inner rose tones. The Rosso Sara, a varietal Nerello Mascalese, balances richness, ripe fruit and structure incredibly well.
