Winemaker Notes

Tenute Silvio Nardi’s classic Brunello is a blend of the finest grapes from the Manachiara and Casale del Bosco estates.Silvio Nardi follows the strict DOCG laws required of a classified Brunello di Montalcino. Yield is limited; only the top70% of the grapes is used to make the wine. The fruit is carefully handpicked and sorted. Fermentation and macerationtakes at least 24 days (varies with parcel) at controlled temperature of less than 86°F. Aged for 12 months in new andused French oak barriques (Allier) before 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels. Bottle aged at least 12 monthsbefore release.

Deep winy red color, with the characteristic bouquet of fresh red fruit. Great tannic structure on the palate, with anexcellent acidic framework. A wine with an excellent, lingering aromatic persistency in the nose and in the mouth.

A linear and tight 2015, like many others, with a medium body, firm and fresh tannins and acidity and a berry, walnut and spice palate. -  James Suckling, 94 pts

Beautifully polished and bright, the Tenute Silvio Nardi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino offers a textbook rendition from this slightly warm vintage. The wine sketches out classic lines with a generous and full array of Sangiovese aromas. These range from wild fruit and dried cherry to tilled earth, cola and balsam herb. There's a pretty note of blue flower or lilac as well for added elegance. The finish is smooth with integrated tannins and balanced acidity. All the elements work harmoniously here and would be nicely accentuated by a spezzatino di maiale, or pork shoulder slow-cooked with tomato, shallots, red wine and peas. - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 94pts

Emilia Nardi runs this estate with her nephew, Emanuele Nardi, who has been the winery’s oenologist since 2000. Bordeaux consultant Eric Boissenot assists in the final blending, which for the Brunello takes into consideration more than 50 different lots from diverse parcels. The 2015 is slightly reductive at the moment, though opens up with pretty wild flowers, red berries and fresh fennel. Immediately firm on the palate, the tannins give shape to soft fruit. This has just enough acidity to lift the whole. Drinking Window 2020 - 2028 - Decanter 90pts

Monolithic today, this red compacts black cherry, plum, tar and tobacco flavors into the chewy tannins. Will need time and faith to find balance. Best from 2024 through 2037. - Wine Spectator, 90 pts
