2022 Saintsbury Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, USA (750ml)
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
The biggest range of site exposure, elevation, soil, and climate of any of our single variety bottlings. "The most complete wine in our portfolio", according to winemaker Tim Colla. It takes an exceptional amount of tinkering and finesse to blend 5+ Single-Vineyard ferments into a harmonious bottling. From Jim Pratt's Sebastopol Hills Vineyard, to the Sangiacomo Family's Roberts Road Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, these vineyards represent decades of relationships and an understanding of the diversity of Sonoma Pinot Noir. Together, they represent a richer canvas than any one vineyard alone might provide.
The result? This wine is bursting with the smells of the Saintsbury Garden at peak season: dewy florals, warm loam, sun-drenched leaves, and bursting fruit freshened by the Carneros breeze.
Tasting Notes: Vibrant, floral, and layered with juicy red fruit, citrus and bergamot-like tea aromatics, and a backbone of silky tannin and gentle spice. A generous palate, lively acidity, and sumptuous texture.
Appellation: Sonoma Coast
Terroir: From the volcanic clay soil of Van der Kamp on Sonoma Mountain to the classic Gold Ridge sandy soil of the Russian River and Sebastopol Hills, each of these vineyard contributes a critical element to the blend.
Winemaking: Primarily native yeasts with 20-25% whole cluster fermentation. 11 months in neutral French Oak.
Production: 863 Cases
Pairing Suggestions: Pan-seared Salmon with salsa verde or BBQ Pork Bao.
