WINEMAKER NOTES:
Deeply floral notes with herbs and huckleberries in an opulent nose. On the palate, blueberries, dried herbs and an underlying savory iron component that provides energy and backbone to the wine. The tannins are velvet, persistent, and already integrated. 2020 was a tough vintage in parts of Washington, but Cara Mia Vineyard turned out a superb set of wines.
Ben Smith
The 2020 Bel Canto is mostly Cabernet Franc but includes 23% Merlot, and as with all these releases from Ben Smith, it comes all from the Cara Mia Vineyard on Red Mountain. Savory currants, tobacco, cigar, dried flowers, and Asian spice notes define the aromatics, and it's round, has a fleshy, concentrated mid-palate, plenty of fruit, and a great finish. It’s another impressive, impeccably made wine from the talented Ben Smith. 290 cases.
