2017 Vignamaggio Castello di Monna Lisa, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, Italy (750ml)
WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
This full-bodied, elegant wine is only made in the best years, with grapes from our most prized vineyards – Prato, Solatio and Querceto. It is made up of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is aged partially in French oak barriques for 18–20 months and partially in larger barrels. The entire ageing process takes a minimum of 30 months, of which at least six are in the bottle.
TASTING NOTES:
Blackberries, dark mushrooms and dried flowers with some hot stones. It’s full-bodied with chewy, polished tannins and a long, intense finish. Very structured and well done. One for the cellar. Try after 2024.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Monna Lisa is rich and textured. Dark cherry, licorice, tobacco and dried herbs all build in the glass. The 2017 offers quite a bit of density and plenty of power. The only thing missing is a touch of freshness, but, then again, this is 2017.
- Vinous, 94 pts.
Ripe and supple, the 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Mona Lisa displays a dark red color and offers aromas of baked cherries, leather, tobacco, and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, it has a rich texture, ripe tannins, and more modest acidity, with earthy undertones. Although I would prefer to drink this sooner rather than later, it has good balance and a classic feel, with rich, structured power behind it, and it should easily hold up over the next 10 years.
- Jeb Dunnuck, 93 pts.
This cherry- and plum-flavored red is fresh and focused, augmented by earth, iron, tobacco and black pepper notes. Turns more austere on the finish as the muscular tannins exert their presence. Best from 2025 through 2035. 2,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.
- Wine Spectator, 92 pts.
