WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
'Petrara' means 'full of stones' and is a fitting name for this brilliant, mineral expression of verdicchio from a single, rocky vineyard in the small appellation of Matelica. This vivid, crisp, dry white, has aromas of frangipani blossom, white peach and Asian pear. With lovely texture on the mid-palate, and a touch of salinity on the finish, try this if you like steely whites like Chablis and Gavi.
TASTING NOTES:
The 2024 Verdicchio di Matelica Petrara wafts up with a delicate and airy mix of chamomile, wild flowers and shaved lemon. It's soothingly round and generous, with a tactile mineral core to balance as an elegant wave of ripe apple and melon washes across the senses. The 2024 tapers off long and lightly structured, leaving a citrus resonance and inner florals that fade slowly. While beautiful today, this will likely improve over the next three to four years.
