WINEMAKER'S NOTES:
From the heart of Napa Valley, the 2023 Caterwaul Cabernet Sauvignon emerges as a bold and finely tuned expression of both place and partnership. Crafted by the formidable duo of Matt Hardin—a sixth-generation Napa Valley grower with deep roots in Pope Valley—and acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, this wine is the culmination of two lifelong commitments to land and craft. Drawing fruit from meticulously farmed vineyard sites across the valley, including prime parcels in Oakville, Coombsville, and Calistoga, the 2023 vintage captures the breadth and beauty of Napa in every glass.
The wine opens with compelling aromatic intensity: ripe blackberry, crushed blueberry, and black cherry interlace with notes of graphite, fresh tobacco leaf, and toasted spice. On the palate, it is structured and seamless—densely packed with dark fruit, yet buoyed by vibrant acidity and polished tannins. The wine’s composition reflects a mastery of balance: power without excess, richness without weight, and a finish that lingers with both clarity and depth. Aging in high-quality French oak adds subtle warmth and complexity, enhancing the Cabernet’s natural layers without overshadowing its purity.
