2023 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tache Grand Cru Monopole, Cote de Nuits, France (750ml)
TASTING NOTES:
The emphasis on opulence of the 2023 La Tâche is completely consistent with my impression out of barrel, with forward black cherry and mulberry fruit aromas, prominent floral notes, and hints of smoke and spice. The texture is dense, with a tannic line that was lush and supple yet supported the fruit and balanced the acidity seamlessly. The combination of freshness, firm tannin, and fruit draws the wine out to an impossibly long finish. My impression on the day was that this wine has just about everything. 26,887 bottles produced.
- Decanter, 99 pts.
I was impressed with the rich, lush and dense texture of La Tâche , boasting black cherry, black currant, licorice, black pepper and spice flavors. It had plenty of muscle and tannins, remaining fresh and long on the finish (98 points, non-blind).
- Wine Spectator, 98 pts.
The 2023 La Tâche Grand Cru was picked on September 10 and 11 at 37.5 hl/ha. Comparing it directly with the 2023 Romanée-Conti, this has slightly more intensity. It is ineffably complex with crushed stone, heather-strewn moorland and subtle estuarine scents that gradually gather momentum with aeration. As usual, this is endowed with heavenly delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, pitch-perfect acidity, real depth and insistent grip, though the tannins are cloaked by that gorgeous dark berry fruit mixed with blood orange and sage. Long and tender on the aftertaste, this is a magnificent La Tâche. 26,887 bottles produced.
- Vinous, 97 pts.
